Tērvete’s name has been chanted since time immemorial, Tērvete’s castle hill and the reconstructed Tērvete’s wooden castle bear witness to the mighty Zemgali cultural and historical center, which was one of the most prominent in the ancient Balt lands. The first written sources about Tērveti are the Chronicle of Indriķas and Atskaņi, which mentions the prominent rulers of the 13th century – Viestards and Namejs.

The amazing splendor of nature and the diversity of terrain in the Zemgale plain, the dry, sunny climate, the scenic, well-kept territories make Tērveti special. The oldest and tallest pine trees in Latvia grow here. The Latvian state forest nature park Tērvete has been repeatedly evaluated as the friendliest place for families with children, recognized as the best European tourist destination in Latvia within the framework of the EDEN project, gaining popularity not only in Latvia, but also abroad.
In Tērvete, we approach the world of the outstanding Latvian writer Anna Brigadere with our hearts. The land of her childhood – the beautiful forest paths and the bays of the Tērvete River have been a source of inspiration that has unleashed the spiritual strength of the writer. Already in the twenties and thirties of the last century, thanks to the writer, several walking trails were created in the territory of the present park and offered to tourists.
The diversity of natural conditions, the pronounced relief of the valley, the concentration of forests, the Tērvete reservoir, cultural and historical monuments, as well as the accessibility of the territory, recreation traditions and popularity make the territory so attractive to visitors.
